Top 7 cars with the least depreciation
Whether used cars, classic cars or accident cars: Every car has a certain value, which can be determined with a valuation report. How the value will develop in the future is the crucial question.
According to the comparison portal Check24, a new car loses around 25 percent of its value in the first twelve months after re-registration. After five years, a car is only worth half as much on average. But there are vehicles that are significantly higher. We show you cars with low depreciation in seven different categories, with which you can be mobile with stable value.
Microcar: Toyota Aygo X (from 2022)
On paper, the combination of microcar and SUV can sound a bit strange. In the sheet metal, however, the concept makes sense, which the Toyota Aygo X proves as a car with low depreciation. It combines a high seating position and assistance systems with the fuel consumption and size of a small car. Four people can sit in the 3.70-metre-long Aygo X, but the rear bench is not for giant seats. The engine is kept simple: only a gasoline engine with 72 hp is offered, which is available with either a five-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT transmission). Depending on the choice of transmission, the small Japanese consumes 4.8 liters per 100 kilometers (manual transmission) or 5 liters (CVT transmission) according to WLTP.
With assistance systems such as a lane departure warning system or a collision warning system, it is very suitable for city traffic or commuting to work. It makes the journey more pleasant with an optional 9-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and a folding rear seat. The latter enables a modest Ikea trip: When folded down, the trunk volume increases from 231 to 829 liters. The Aygo X 2022 was available from 15,390 euros, as a used car at mobile.de you can find it two years old and with a mileage of up to 30,000 kilometers from 12,000 euros.
Small car: Dacia Sandero TCe 90 Comfort (from 2021)
The Romanian brand Dacia is known for its low new car prices. Even though the Dacia Sandero is only available with five-digit new prices after the discontinuation of the cheapest equipment line, it remains a car with little depreciation. The Dacia Sandero TCe 90 Comfort, which shines with a petrol engine with 91 hp and the highest equipment line, is particularly stable in value. The latter offers an infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen, air conditioning and heated exterior mirrors.
If you want to have a good overview when saving, you can also purchase the Sandero as a "Stepway". In this version, the Sandero becomes a small SUV with a higher chassis and roof rails. In the prices, the Romanian small car even shows itself as a car without depreciation: The Dacia Sandero TCe 90 Comfort was available new from 11,490 euros, used you can find it from 11,900 euros at the age of three years with a mileage of up to 60,000 kilometers at mobile.de.
Compact class: Kia Ceed GT (from 2019)
In the compact class, good value retention and sportiness suitable for everyday use go hand in hand with the Kia Ceed GT. The Korean all-rounder offers 204 hp in the GT version and a sporty, dynamically tuned chassis. Its power is derived from a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is given a powerful voice with a duplex sports exhaust system. For the best sound, an active flap control is integrated into the exhaust.
Where the Kia is sporty and angular on the outside, it brings the necessary comfort in the interior and in use. This is ensured, for example, by a 10-inch touchscreen in the dashboard, a cruise control system and a motorway assistant that supports driving. Since "GT" is the highest equipment variant of the Ceed, a corresponding price tag also hangs on the Korean compact sports car: New in 2019 it cost around 29,590 euros. As a car with low depreciation, you can find it at mobile.de from 19,900 euros at the age of five years with up to 100,000 kilometers of mileage.
Mid-range: Mazda6 Skyactive-G 194 Homura (from 2022)
The Mazda3 and Mazda6 have long been among the most popular everyday cars. So it's no surprise that the compact Mazda3 gets a good score in the compact class, and the larger Mazda6 regularly achieves podium finishes among cars with little depreciation in the mid-size class. In 2022, three new trim levels were added to the Mazda6: "Homura", "Takumi" and "20th Anniversary Edition". The optimal residual value giant is the Mazda6 Skyactive-G 194 in the Homura trim level. "Homura" means "flame" in Japanese. The trim level offers red leather seats to match the name, a Bose sound system, heated seats on the front seats and outer seats of the rear bench, and adaptive cruise control.
In terms of performance, Mazda's model designation says it all: The 194 in the name stands for 194 hp that the gasoline engine in the Mazda6 produces. The 2.5-liter gasoline engine from Mazda's Skyactive series is said to offer a compromise between driving pleasure, efficiency and environmental friendliness. With the Homura equipment, the Japanese middle-class car cost 46,750 euros two years ago. At mobile.de you will find the car with a low depreciation starting at a price of 26,990 euros at the age of two years and with up to 30,000 kilometers of mileage.
Toyota Land Cruiser J15 3.0 D-4D (2013–2017)
Similar to its corporate brother Hilux, the Toyota Land Cruiser has built up a reputation for practicality and durability over many years. Accordingly, its reliability is also reflected in its value retention: despite being up to eleven years old, the Land Cruiser with the 3-litre diesel engine remains at over 50 per cent of its new price. The facelift, which will be offered from 2013, offers a comfortable chassis for long distances and assistance systems such as lane departure warning or blind spot assist. The instruments in the interior for angle of inclination and steering wheel positions show where the Land Cruiser also feels very much at home: off the road.
Full-size class: Porsche Panamera 971 4 E-Hybrid (2016–2020)
It is hardly surprising that iconic vehicles such as the Porsche 911 hold up their value well. It is all the more exciting that a newer model series such as the Panamera offers high residual value even in several drive systems. Whether it's a 4S with a petrol engine, a diesel or a 4 E-Hybrid, the Panamera holds up well. The 4 E-Hybrid offers a hybrid system with a purely electric range of up to 50 kilometres, paired with a 2.9-litre turbocharged V6, which can also be found in the Audi RS 5 or S6, for example.
Thanks to the technology from the Porsche 918 Spyder, full electric power is available right at the start of acceleration, accelerating the car from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 4.6 seconds. The optional all-wheel steering supports the driving pleasure typical of Porsche: at low speeds and in bends, the Panamera can be driven actively and agilely, while at high speeds it focuses on driving stability.
Another advantage of the hybrid: With a starting price of 107,553 euros, it was relatively inexpensive to purchase at the market launch in 2016. At mobile.de you will find models from 2017 from 50,000 euros with up to 200,000 kilometers.
Sports Cars / Coupés / Convertibles: Audi TT 40 TFSI S tronic (from 2018)
Even though the Audi TT was discontinued in 2023, it remains a coupe (or roadster) with an iconic design that showcases arc and circle elements with the courage to edge. The last generation of the small sports car from Ingolstadt is available in the TT, TTS and TT RS gradations as a coupé or convertible with an output range of 197 to 400 hp. The Audi TT 40 TFSI, i.e. the basic variant, is particularly stable in value. The basic equipment already offers amenities such as the digital instruments (namely: "Audi Virtual Cockpit") and a multifunction steering wheel, which allows the infotainment system to be controlled entirely from the steering wheel.
What the last generation unfortunately no longer offers is a diesel variant: For this, you have to look for models before the facelift in 2018. But there is a nice outlook for the future: A small electric sports car is discussed. Whether it might be a TT e-tron remains to be seen.
The Audi TT 40 TFSI S tronic was available from 35,900 euros. Used, you can find the car with a low depreciation from 2018 with up to over 100,000 kilometers from a price of 24,950 euros at mobile.de.
